영국 경마축제 Goodwood Festival과 아름다운 굿우드 경마장 풍경
6월 영국 버크셔(Berkshire)의 왕실 애스콧 경마장에서 열리는 경마축제 로열애스콧(Royal Ascot, 2019.6.18~22)에 이어 굿우드 페스티벌(Goodwood Festival)은 영국경마협회(BHA) 주관으로 매년 7월말에 굿우드 경마장에서 5일간 개최한다.
2019년 올해는 7월 30일부터 8월 3일까지 열린다. 영광스러운 굿우드(Glorious Goodwood)로 부른다.

‘Glorious Goodwood’

세계에서 가장 아름다운 경마장중의 하나로 불리는 굿우드 경마장은 런던 남부 웨스트 서섹스(West Sussex)의 치체스터(Chichester) 북부 언덕(Sussex Downs)에 위치하고 있다.
The most beautiful Racecourse in the world
Horseracing has been a part of Goodwood since 1802, when the 3rd Duke of Richmond introduced the sport for the amusement of local army officers. Fast forward 200 years and Goodwood’s racing season now consists of 19 unique racedays, including the flagship event, the Qatar Goodwood Festival, affectionately known as ‘Glorious Goodwood’.
전부 잔디 코스로 직선에 8자가 붙어 있는 모양을 한 특이한 형태의 경마장이다.
장거리 경주는 8자 시작부분에서 출발하여 한바퀴 돌고 홈스트레치로 들어온다. 직선거리는 약 1000m이지만 구석 부분까지 사용하면 1200m 직선경주 시행이 가능하다.
축제 3일차 8월 1일(목) 레이디데이 암말경주 낫소 스테익스(Nassau Stakes) 출전 일본중앙경마회 소속 데얼드리(Deirdre, 일본어: 디아도라, ディアドラ)와 굿우드 경마장 투어
굿우드 페스티벌 기간중의 대표적인 레이스는 1일차 장거리경주 굿우드컵(Goodwood Cup, G1, 약 3219m), 2일차 브리더스컵 챌린지 시리즈 서섹스 스테익스(Sussex Stakes, G1, 약1609m), 3일차 암말경주 낫소 스테익스(Nassau Stakes, G1, 약 1991m)이다.
경마장 가는 법
경마 개최일에는 치체스터(Chichester)역에서 경마장까지 버스를 운행한다.
런던 빅토리아 스테이션에서 기차로 치체스터까지 1시간 반정도 걸린다. 런던에서 60마일(약 96km) 떨어져 있다.
